Week 1 Review

REVIEW OF WEEK 1…..the story so far

GIRLS U8

The girls U8 division saw wins for the Dix Hills Peanutbutters and the Bulls. Dix Hills came out strong and took a 3 goal lead into the half time break with goals from Mia Bordwin, Andi Rollo and Samantha Goldberg. HBC 3G hit back in the second half with two Felicity Johnson goals but were unable to find the equalizer as the Peanutbutters held on for a 3-2 victory.

Massapequa Xtreme and the Bulls played an entertaining game with both teams having no problems finding the target. The Bulls led 3-2 at the half and added another five in the second to eventually win 8- 5. Gianna Bartlett top scored for the Bulls with four goals, Summer Potvin scored twice. Gillian Barresi and Allison Abzug completed the scoring. Alexandra Coloma scored a hat trick for the Xtreme with Thalia Morisi adding two.

Boys U14

South Huntington Hawks got their season off to a good start with a 6-1 win over Elwood Gladiators. They raced into a 4-0 lead with two goals from Gabe Quesquen and one each from Jayvin Coto and Jamie Bonilla. Elwood came into the game more in the second half but another Jamie Bonilla goal and one from Brian Valencia made it 6-0. Paul Schiappi pulled a goal back for Elwood near the end.

Uniondale Majico and the Hicksville Renegades played an exciting first half, the only goal coming in the 25th minute from Majico’s Alexis Morales. The Hicksville boys pressed in the second half and were rewarded with five minutes remaining when Owen Restrepo broke down the left wing and fired home at the near post, 1-1 the final score.

In another close contest the Hauppauge Azzuri and Uniondale Allstars went into the half time break tied 1-1. Dave Cedillos gave the Allstars the lead but Timmy Grosso leveled for the Azzuri. In the second half Geraldo Agbodoh found the top corner from over twenty yards out with a sizzling left footed strike. Not to be outdone, the Azzuri’s Zack Halfpenny put a direct free kick into the top corner to make it 2-2 with eight minutes left. Despite half chances the game ended even, both teams picking up one point.

The other BU14 match saw the two Inter Soccer Academy teams from Bayshore play. Inter A was too strong for the Inter B squad and ran out 5-0 winners. Junior Reyes scored twice, Jonny Cedano, Edgar Galeas and Jason Herrera also found the net.

We have some very good games to look forward to in this division in the coming weeks!

Boys U8

Syosset White and HBC Wildcats got the BU8 season underway and it was the Whites who struck first. Benji Blair gave them an early lead that was soon extended with goals from Dylan Provenz and Zach McPhee. Sammy Sekler pulled one back for the Wildcats but Zach McPhee scored twice more to complete his hat trick and Jack Hennich added a sixth, 6-1 the score.

After a scoreless opening fifteen minutes Jeffrey Wilson gave Dix Hills Thunder the lead in their game against Syosset Red. The Reds hit back to take the lead with goals from Kosta Karousis and William Bowen. The Thunder pressure finally paid off and they finished strongly scoring four late goals to win 5- 2. Dylan Rosenberg tied it up before Ian Alper restored their lead, Jeffrey Wilson and Dylan Rosenberg each scored their second of the game to complete the scoring.

The two Arsenals played each other, Kings Park and HBC, and both teams had plenty of ammunition in front of goal. HBC raced into a three goal lead with strikes from Nico Corea, Geral Cortez and Ben Stummer. Ryan Webb reduced the deficit with Kings Park’s first goal but Nico Corea added two more to complete a first half hat trick. Kings Pk hit back after the break and were soon back in the game with goals from Mike Bailes, Daniel Friedman and a second from Ryan Webb. Liam Harrington then made it 6- 4 to HBC but with only two minutes left Kings Park rallied and goals from Michael Smith Michael Bailes meant the points were shared in an entertaining 6-6 draw!

The final game in the division saw the Dix Hills Dynamite take on the HBC Annoying Oranges. The Oranges survived some early pressure but first half goals from Spencer Hirch, Spencer Bernak, Jackson Pam, Cole Manus and two from Tyler Glassberg gave them a comfortable lead. Andrew Pinzone pulled a goal back in the second half for the Oranges but the Dynamite continued to dominate and definitely look like the favorites in this division.

Boys U9

There was only one game in the BU9 division this week with two teams starting their season next week. The HBC Kings and the HBC Attack played a close and goalless first half, the closest either team came to scoring was a King’s shot that came back off the underside of the crossbar. The second half remained tight until the King’s finally made the breakthrough, Dylan Thody with the opening goal. Nick Farnacci added a second before Dylan Thody scored his second and the King’s third, 3-0 the final score.

Boys U10

The BU10 division gave us two very close games. The first saw the Inter Soccer Academy play the Hempstead EOC Leopards and it was the Leopards who struck first, Gabriel Santos opening the scoring. Eric Blanco equalized for Inter as both teams attacked in search of goals. The Leopards restored their lead with a strike from Milton Gonzalez but Carlos Ponce netted the final goal of the game for Inter to ensure a share of the points, 2-2 the final.

HBC Wasabi came out fired up and took an early two goal lead against Elwood with good finishes by Liam McKenna and James Philippis. Elwood finally got into their stride and pulled a goal back thanks to Dylan Poblete. His Brother Daniel Poblete then equalized to make the half time score 2-2. Elwood completed their comeback in the second half with by goals from TJ Carrol and another from Dylan Poblete making the final score 4-2 in their favor.

Boys U11

Brentwood AC Milan started the BU11 season with a comfortable 5-0 win over CSH Arsenal. Milan dominated the first half and despite improving in the second half the Arsenal were unable to find the net, Heris Rolles scored twice for Brentwood.

Uniondale Hawks took the lead in the first half against the HBC Wolverines when a cross was deflected into the goal by a Wolverines defender. The Hawks doubled their lead before half time with a shot by Jason Pinera. The second half was a close and competitive encounter with both teams managing one goal each, Darren Morales was on target for the Hawks and Nick Ditmer for the Wolverines. The final score 3-1 to the Hawks.

Boys U12

Uniondale Leones got off to a flying start in the BU12 division. Thajee Zaid and Steven Lopez both scored hat tricks in their 6-1 victory over the Commack Allstars. The Allstars competed well throughout but were unable to stop the powerful Leones offense.

Inter Soccer Academy and Hempstead EOC Leopards played a fiercely contested game, Paul Montiel scored the only goal of the first half to give Inter the advantage. The second half saw both teams miss half chances until Edwin Castellon finally broke through for the Leopards. His goal two minutes from the end was enough to secure a point with the game ending 1-1.

Boys U7

HBC Inter opened their season with a win with a 4-1 victory over HBC City. Nick Induisi opened the scoring early in the game and a direct free kick from Liam Harrington soon after made it 2-0. A Shay Daly goal and a second from Liam Harrington made it 4-0 at half time. The City team was much improved after the break and Noah Paul pulled a goal back mid way through the half. They were unable to add to it though as Inter claimed the three points.

Elwood Stars started well against the Blue Dragons but couldn’t find their scoring touch. The Dragons had no such problems and were soon three up with two goals from Tyler Varlack and one from Jordan Garbut. Jack Smith pulled a goal back for the Stars but further goals from Gavin Wisotsky, Dean Muratore and Jordan Heyman eased the Dragons to a 6-1 victory.

Girls U11

There was only one game in the GU11 division, two of the teams will be starting their season next week. South Huntington Cyclones took an early lead against the Uniondale Gacelas thanks to a Kristen Finnerty strike. A Beatriz Flores goal evened it up for the Gacelas as the teams ended a competitive half tied at 1- 1. The Gacelas came out strong in the second half and goals by Dainaly Fuentes, Ashley Hernadez, Leslie Rivas and a second from Beatriz Flores gave made sure of the three points. Emily O’Mara was on target for the Cyclones, 5-2 to Gacelas the final score.

Girls U12

New Hyde Park Firecats made a good start to their season with a 5-0 victory over South Huntington Falcons. Emily Rose scored two early goals to set them on their way with Lindsey Smith and Logan Ward also on target before Half time. Josephine LaMarca scored the only goal of the second half as the Firecats claimed a comfortable three points.

Middle Country Xplosion took an early lead against Hauppauge Explosion in the other Gu12 game, Alyssa Muszak with the goal. Hauppauge worked their way back into the game and their pressure was rewarded when Mackenzie Underdown equalized. Hauppauge went in search of a winner and found it late in the second half when Serena Wenert found the net, 2-1 the final score.
