Week 8 Review

BU7/8

PLAY OFFS

Ajax v Roma

Ajax and Roma got the play offs started in the Bu7/8 division and a close first half provided lots of action but ended scoreless. Despite plenty of pressure after the break Ajax couldn’t break down a resolute Roma defense and with five minutes to play Robbie Campbell struck to give Roma a 1-0 lead. With less than two minutes on the clock Roma extended their lead courtesy of an Ajax own goal and they held on comfortably to move into the final.

Hbc Germany v Rangers

In the second semi final Matthew Benevides scored twice to give Hbc Germany a two goal lead over Rangers. Grant Kurland pulled a goal back for Rangers but Byron Araujo retstored the two goal advantage for Germany before half time. Rangers had chances in the second half to get back into the game but Germany stood firm and went through to the final winning 3-1.

3rd place game

Rangers v Ajax

The third place play off game was another competitive match with Ajax and Rangers playing an even and scoreless first half. Grant Kurland and Matthew Bender scored second half goals for Rangers and they claimed 3rd place with the 2-0 victory.

FINAL

Roma v Hbc Germany

Jhordan Moreira gave Roma an early lead in the final against Hbc Germany but an own goal soon drew Germany level and it stayed that way until half time. Matthew Benevides gave Germany their first lead of the game in the second half then extended it to 3-1 with a second shortly after. Robbie Campbell scored with seconds remaining to make it 3-2 but It wasn’t enough for Rangers as Germany took first place.

Lazio won both of their week 8 games beating the Destroyers 4-3 then the Southdown Flyers 5-1.
Aidan Bezack scored twice against the Destroyers and Aidan Reh twice against the Flyers.
Chris Prainito and Cooper Brandt each scored twice for the Crushers in their 4-1 victory over the Destroyers then Chris scored a hat trick and Cooper twice as the Crushers beat the Flyers 6-0.
Chris Prainito won the Golden Boot with 23 goals for the season, 5 ahead of Matthew Benevides who scored 18.

Congratulations to Hbc Germany, to Chris on his Golden Boot victory and to all the teams for making it another exciting and enjoyable season.

BU9/10

PLAY OFFS

Valencia v Poland

Valencia got off to a good start in the first semi final when Lennon Harrington headed in a cross to give them an early lead. Dylan Gugin added two goals, Raj Gujral one and Lennon Harrington another two as Valencia won comfortably to move into the final with a 6-0 win.

Elwood v Wolves

Elwood took a first half lead over Wolves when David McCalla fired a shot into the corner but Sean Manoff leveled for Wolves shortly after to make it 1-1 at the half. A close second half followed with Elwood eventually moving into the final thanks to two goals by Josh Bohlen. 3-1 the final score.

3rd Place play off

Wolves v Poland

Wolves recovered from the disappointment of their semi final defeat to beat Poland 6-0 in the 3rd place game, Sean Manoff and Chris Walker each scored twice.

FINAL

Valencia v Elwood

Elwood started strongly but couldn’t get on the scoresheet and it was Valencia who took the lead late in the first half when Rajveer Gujral found the net.
The second half was equally as competitive but two quick goals by Lennon Harrington and one by Dylan Gugin put the game out of Elwood’s reach and Valencia took first place winning 4-0.

BU11/12

Play offs

Chelsea v Spurs

Chelsea and Spurs got the Bu11/12 play offs underway and after a close start Chelsea took control and a two goal lead before half time. Chelsea keeper Ryan Schiff kept them in the lead with a couple of important saves in the second half before Chelsea added four more goals to move into the final winning 6-0.
Aleks Proniewski and Lennon Harrington scored twice for Chelsea with Bryan Lizama and Liam Harrington adding one each.

Hbc Ambush v Arsenal

This was a close semi final from start to finish. Both teams had chances but were unable to break the deadlock until Dylan Schnitzer finally beat the impressive Sawyer Diamond in the Arsenal goal to gave the Ambush a 1-0 lead mid way through the second half. Arsenal’s Jonathan Shank soon evened the score with a close range finish and the game headed into extra time. Neither team could find the winning goal in a fast paced extra time so they went to penalty kicks. An exciting game between two evenly matched teams was eventually settled with Jonathan Shank, Jason Kaiser and Ryan DeWitt all scoring PK’s for Arsenal who moved into the final with a 3-2 shootout victory.

FINAL

Chelsea v Arsenal

Arsenal started well in the final but couldn’t match the intensity they showed in their their semi final game.
Chelsea were two goals up at half time and dominated the second half adding four more goals to win convincingly 6-0.
Aleks Proniewski and Bryan Lizama found the net twice for Chelsea and Lennon Harrington and David McCalla scored one each as Chelsea claimed the first place trophies.

In the consolation games Benfica tied Spurs 1-1 and Hbc Ambush 2-2.
Jack Steel gave Benfica the lead against Spurs but David Lazaro scored a late equalizer for Spurs. Jaiveer Gujral and Colin Phelan were then on target for Benfica against the Ambush but Dylan Schnitzer and Luke Rinaldi scored for the Ambush to even the game at 2-2.

Congratulations to Chelsea on their final victory, to Lennon Harrington who won the Golden Boot with 30 goals and to all the teams for another exciting season!

BU13/14

PLAY OFFS

Chaos v Green Machine

The BU13/14 division has been competitive throughout and was again for the final week of the season. Chaos and Green Machine were level 0-0 at half time in the first semi final and it wasn’t until late in the contest that Chaos were able to pull away with goals by Jason Garay and Carmine De’Ieso giving them a 2-0 victory and a place in the final.

Uniondale Vikingos v Finley

These two teams tied 0-0 in league play two weeks back and a similar pattern followed in their play off semi final. Both teams showed plenty of skill and determination but were again unable to break the deadlock and headed into extra time. The Vikingos finished stronger with Douglas Barrera dribbling through the Finley defense twice only to be stopped on both occasions by Finley keeper Dylan Cotter. Finley held firm in the final moments and the match went to penalty kicks.
Alex Martinez and Chris Morandi converted PK’s for Finley before keeper Dylan Cotter saved the Vikingos’ second PK after the first had come back off the crossbar to send Finley into the final.

3rd place game

Green Machine v Uniondale Vikingos

It looked like the Vikingos had recovered from their semi final disappointment as they went into a 2-0 lead over Green Machine, Jason Hernandez and Andrew Orego finding the net. Green Machine persevered until the end and were rewarded when Sebastian Koch pulled a goal back with a minute and a half remaining then Danny Costello tied it up with a neat finish in the final seconds and the game ended even 2-2.

FINAL

Chaos v Finley

After their pulsating semi final victory Finley were hoping to carry the momentum into the final against Chaos and did so in an entertaining first half which ended scoreless. The second half was a different story as Chaos scored two goals in quick succession which appeared to take the wind out of Finley’s sails and three late goals followed as Chaos celebrated a 5-0 victory. Jake Donahue scored twice with Brian Contreras, Jason Garay and Carmine De’Ieso all adding one each in a confident second half display.

In the consolation games SH Sharpshooters beat the Outlaws White 4-0 thanks to a Chris O’Connor hat trick. The Sharpshooters also beat the Outlaws Green 2-1 and the Outlaws Green beat the Outlaws White 5-2. Dylan Behr scored twice for White and Michael Pinzone twice for Green.

Congratulations to Chaos for their victory and to Finley’s Arnold Alfaro who’s seventeen goals won him the Golden Boot.
Thanks to all the BU13/14 teams for such a competitive and entertaining season.

GU13/14

Northport Spirit were consistent all season losing only one of sixteen games and deservedly finished top of the GU13/14 division. Week 8 saw them win another two games. Liz Starin scored a hat trick in the 5-2 win over the Tiger Lily’s and Mia Friere was on target twice in the 3-0 victory over the Blue Devils, Julianna Bertoloni added the third.
The Shooting Stars beat the Tiger Lily’s 2-0 with goals by Zoe Xidas and Caitlin Collins before the Blue Devils and Shooting Stars tied the final game 1-1.
Liz Starin was the Golden Boot winner with an impressive total of 31 goals for the Spirit team.
Congratulations to Liz, to the Spirit and to all the girls who made it another fun season.

BU16

PLAY OFFS

Sting White v H Footy

As expected all of the BU16 games were close affairs and the play offs were as competitive as they were exciting.
Tyler Abedin gave Sting White a first half lead who then defended aggressively for the remainder of the game and held on to their one goal lead throughout an end to end second half to move into the final.

United v Sting Green

Another equally competitive game saw both teams give 100% In their semi final which always looked like being a one goal game. Both teams missed half chances to win it and the game went into extra time. With less than two minutes to play before penalty kicks Gabe Quesquen scored the all important winning goal for United with a firm strike that sent United through to the final.

FINAL

United v Sting White

After tight semi final victories both teams managed to maintain their momentum and played with plenty of energy and passion in another end to end encounter. Johnny Tucker gave Sting White a first half lead but Gabe Quesquen hammered in an equalizer for United. John Paul Paci’s long range drive gave the Sting White a 2-1 lead and Rudy Salveron wrapped it up late on with a third as the Sting White won another impressive game, and the first place medals, with a 3-1 triumph.

Sting Green won the third place game over United 5-2 to end the day.

Congratulations to The Sting White on their play off victory, to Golden Boot winner Alex Marino and to all teams and players for such a competitive and sportsmanlike season!
